Learning a new skill can help you feel smarter, help in situations where the skill is needed, and give you something to do when you're bored. Following is a list of new skills to learn. Skill # 1: Knitting
Everybody should learn to knit, because it's a useful skill and a good concept to be able to understand. Looping and knotting yarn using two simple needles is a good, constructive way to pass some time, and something nice to do with your hands while watching TV or listening to music. Knitting is also a great way to make sweet gifts for friends and family. There are lots of YouTube videos that can teach you to knit, but the best way to learn is from a friend or another person. Grandmas are great for this, but lots of people know how to knit. Try local nursing homes for a great old lady knitting teacher.
If you already know how to knit, try learning to purl or learn some new patterns or cables.
How-To-Knit Video
This YouTube video is very clear and concise, and will teach you the basics of knitting. Online videos are a great way to learn a new skill, because you can replay the video if you don't understand something. As one teacher says, "YouTube is patient and repeats itself." Check out YouTube and other video sites for more great instructional videos.
Skill # 2: Driving A Stick Shift
Learning to drive a car with a manual transmission is an essential skill. You can learn from your parents, a trustworthy friend, or another instructor. The beach is a good place to learn how to drive a stick, or you can try an empty parking lot or a big field. It's best to learn in a not-too-populated area, for safety reasons. It may take awhile to get used to using all four limbs while driving, and synchronizing the pressing of the clutch with shifting. This is an important life skill, because you never know when you'll need to be a designated driver, or give a friend a ride in a manual car. Also, cars with manual transmissions tend to be cheaper and get better gas mileage, so learning this skill could save you a lot of money.
Here's a tip:

Skill # 3: Using Photoshop
Photoshop, and other similar picture editing software, are very good to know how to use, even if you don't need to use them in your career. Besides being able to crop photos and edit the color settings, you can use Photoshop to make amusing novelty photos, or paint gorgeous artistic photos. To learn to use Photoshop, you can try free tutorials online (YouTube and other video sites have many great ideas for beginners), or learn from a book or friend. Photoshop is a good program to become familiar with for current jobs or a new career.
If you're already proficient, learn about a new tool or a new fun technique, or if you're already a Photoshop whiz, try mastering Illustrator or InDesign!!
